How this site works, and how we get paid

You should know who's on the other end before you pick up the phone.

The steps

1. You take the free Roof Check. It asks about your roof, not about you. No name or phone number required.
2. You get an answer based on what you told us. Sometimes that's "price a replacement", sometimes it's "a repair or inspection makes more sense".
3. If you want to, you call. The number on the results page connects you with an independent local roofing company, or a service that connects you to one.
4. You decide. There's no obligation to hire anyone. Get more than one estimate.

How we get paid

Home Exterior Check is free for homeowners. When you call a number on this site, the provider you reach pays for that call through a pay-per-call advertising network, and part of that payment comes to us. We don't charge you, and we don't get paid more for telling you that you need a new roof.

That creates an obvious question: wouldn't we be tempted to send everyone to a replacement? That's why the Roof Check shows a "repair or inspection" result when your answers point that way, and why that result doesn't ask you to call.

What we don't do

• We don't sell the answers you give in the Roof Check.
• We don't guarantee any provider's work, prices or availability.
